Every day I remind myself that my inner and outer life are based on the labors of other men, living and dead, and that I must exert myself in order to give in the same measure as I have received and am still receiving.
Albert Einstein
All ambitions are lawful except those that climb upward on the miseries or credulities of mankind.

War is a way of shattering to pieces, or pouring into the stratosphere, or sinking in the depths of the sea, materials which might otherwise be used to make the masses too comfortable, and hence, in the long run, too intelligent.

The purpose of this section is to provide students with materials adapted from authentic resources that will help them develop critical and analytical skills as well as enrich their vocabulary ,broaden their knowledge and fire their imagination.
The questions students are asked in most of these texts aim at persuading them to:
• argue :('Women should have equal rights because ... ')
• explain :('Global warming stems from... ')
• make decisions: ('I think we have to combat racism because
... ')
• predict the future: ('I expect the world will be safe and peaceful
because ... ')
• explore issues :('How will we eradicate poverty?')
• find answers ('Why do oil prices jack up?')
• justify actions ('Watching foot-ball matches is really a waste of time because ... ' ).
These skills will be improved much more,as Mathew Allen said, when students get to the writers points," explain a complicated idea, generate reasons for their viewpoints, interpret, make connections, evaluate the reasons given by others, decide what information to accept or reject, see the pros as well as the cons and so forth".
I hope students will find these texts interesting and enjoyable as well as challenging and useful .
